Walker & Royce Release Debut Album 'Self Help'

The hype has been real with this one - from Walker & Royce incredible set at Dirtybird Campout with live vocals from Dances With White Girls (you'll remember him from ‘Take Me To Your Leader’, aka track of the summer), to Green Velvet rinsing ‘Rub Anotha Dub’ with his vocals everywhere he went this summer, to Claude and the rest of the Dirtybird's support of the records. Their long-awaited debut album Self Help has finally been released on Dirtybird Records today.

Self Help invites listeners on an out-of-mind trip through the quirks and quips of an act on the tip of modern house music’s tongue. The result is a journey whose stops are as fit for introspection as it is for peak club moments. It is this range that reveals the magnanimous personalities of Dirtybird’s new golden boys as they offer up a selection of tracks, no boundaries, no limits just boundless creativity, and sonic joy.

Gavin Royce and Samuel Walker have made a rapid recognition of fans across the globe and into the heart of the genres most sought-after label bosses of late, after linking up with Claude VonStroke in 2011 and working relentlessly to define and refine their now-signature sound.

From the three instantaneously infectious organ chords that open the lead single Take Me To Your Leader, Walker & Royce bring the listener into the distinct sonic world they’ve created, one in which the past and present collide and disparate elements are played off one another for maximum effect. In only a few short years they created a signature sound that we are all very familiar with – of modern religion’s instrument of choice – is brilliantly subverted by the eccentric, party-starting vocals of the duo’s longtime friend Dances With White Girls. The track’s switch to an intergalactic synth line lays the foundation for the album’s continued mirroring of vocals and hardware - if you listen closely, what you hear is what you get.

The magical collaborative continues with standout tracks likes Dances’ second song on the album Love & Marriage, My Own Thing featuring Sophiegrophy, the crossover vocal stylings of OnCue in Role Models, JPatt’s modern call response in Pass That, and the whispers that brings chills to your body with Why Tho and the dreamlike funk of the album’s final breath Need Ya featuring Forrest

It is this interconnection between producer and vocalist that helps to create the deep sense of emotion felt throughout the release. Walker & Royce explore a selfless and diversely passionate style of production known by few. Their journey is one defined by such relationships and this album stands as a culmination of the highs and lows shared along the way.

Self Help puts a career-defining debut album - an immensely clever project that lures listeners in with club-ready grooves only to leave them in contemplation. Walker & Royce invite you to get lost in the flowing constructs of their imagination while they search for the constantly evolving remedy of Self Help

Walker & Royce Debut Second Offering From Forthcoming Self Help Album via DIRTYBIRD

Brooklyn birds Walker & Royce have recently debuted the second track off their forthcoming Self Help album which will be released out on DIRTYBIRD October 20th. This next track ‘Rub Anotha Dub’ features vocals from House music pioneer Green Velvet, further showcasing Walker & Royce’s rich connection with the genre’s history and future alike.

‘Rub Anotha Dub’ has beats and a dazzling bassline that continues Samuel Walker and Gavin Royce’s reign over this year’s dance-floors world-wide. Their iconic production and building synth work retain their signature anthemic melody play while Green Velvet steps to the mic to tell a story of a club night’s past. This one is certainly for the peak times on the dance floor.

The release of the second single off Self Help comes just days before the guys head off on their 2017 album tour, kicking off with a run of European dates, culminating with shows at Germany’s Kater Blau and Egg London. They then turn their sights back towards home, kicking off the U.S. leg of the tour with a weekend at October’s Dirtybird Campout. From there, Walker & Royce begin their journey across North America with a slew of club and festival gigs; notable stops include Dirtybird Players parties in Brooklyn and Washington DC, San Francisco’s Halycon, Chicago’s Spybar, Detroit’s Grasshopper Underground, Los Angeles’ Sound and San Diego’s Bang Bang, with more dates set to be announced soon.

Self Help puts forth a career-defining debut album - an impressive clever project that lures listeners in with club-ready grooves only to leave them in contemplation. Walker & Royce invite you to get lost in the flowing constructs of their imagination while they search for the constantly evolving remedy of Self Help.

Claude VonStroke Releases New EP Entitled "Works Well With Others"

The big man Claude VonStroke has released a new EP- it's his first release since The Rain Break shut down the club over a year ago. The EP is called Works Well With Others as it's a collaboration between CVS, Will Clarke, and Sébastien V

The year of 2016 was huge for Dirtybird's founder, Claude VonStroke. He debuted his Get Real alias with Green Velvet in the winter, and followed up with another number one single in the spring with "The Rain Break". As well as celebrating the 10th anniversary of "Who's Afraid of Detroit" to kick off the Summer, and finished in the fall by being crowned 'America's Best DJ' by Pioneer at a ceremony he shared with all the fans at the Dirtybird Campout.

After touring for the first half of 2017, Claude hit the studio with a couple elite producers such as Will Clarke & Sébastien V to collaborate on two giant singles for the "Works Well With Others" EP.

The first track entitled “Daylight Dark Room”, Claude teams up with one of Dirtybird’s newest talents, Sébastien V. A light, melodic tone infused with a dark and funky acid resonance to create a truly unique masterpiece. The second track of the EP entitled “Tiny Tambourine” is the product of Will Clarke & Claude working together. It’s a bit of a misnomer, but it’s a sound and style that is all too distinctive. With heavy a bassline which starts to form immediately at the track’s outset. Continuing to build over crisp and heavy beats and outbursts of drama before dropping back to the burly bassline, the result is monstrous.

Will Clarke has been on a Dirtybird hot streak having released 3 solo EPs, 5 singles, an appearance on Justin Martin's album, as well as a brand new collaboration with Shiba San on the BBQ compilation and a full take over on the Birdhouse radio show. Dirty bird also just named Mixmag’s Label of the Decade, and of course, Dirtybird Campout is on the way - coming up October 6-8 in Bradley, CA and catch all the bird’s performances.
