UK Avant Pop artist Zilla With Her Eyes Shut and her spellbinding new single Whisper Whisper, the first release from her upcoming full-length album Zilla With Her Eyes Shut via Accidental Records on March 13th. Zilla is a classical pianist-pop surrealist whose music coaxes the subconscious to come out and play. Full of Parisian melancholy, bouncy leftfield dance and electronic pop, Zilla's music is a fantasy filled with imaginary friends and monsters. This is a nocturnal tale of obsession, of relationships behind closed doors, of the secrets we hide, of a daydreamer's take on life and the way we wish to be remembered after we die.
Born and raised in Paris, Zilla is a singer, songwriter, and producer who trained as a classical pianist at a Parisian conservatoire for 10 years before moving to London at 18. There she started writing piano-based music over hip hop beats, inspired by her favorite composers and experimental electronica. It's a globe-trotting sound that reflects her heritage: Zilla's mother is the Ivory Coast ambassador to Denmark, her father a chemistry professor who fled Guinea's dictatorship in the 1970s.
‘Whisper Whisper’ is a twisted fairytale of a little girl and her imaginary friend who talks to her when she plays the piano as well as during the night. The friend dares to tackle subjects that the little girl is scared to talk about, revealing deep anger towards her father and drawing plans to kill him his sleep.
Zilla says "This story comes from the childhood trauma I went through, I started hearing whispers in my head when I was about 10, right about the time I started playing on the piano. It is a joyful track because the imaginary friend made me feel like I wasn't alone and instead of acting out the violence, at least it only happened in my head as a big explosion of sounds, words, and colours."
Using elements and objects to create this incredible track include an old rum bottle, blowing through pages of a book, a big stone, a light bulb, a pillow, and a hairpin. A natural and organic melody, creating music with everyday objects developing a sound like none other, a beautiful and bold move as Zilla shows her true colors in making music.
