Bellingham-based ambient electronic solo artist Jeads has released his new album entitled Under the Veneer. The ten-track album displays the talent and passion by this ambient electro-house solo artist
The album was inspired on March 2019, by a giant snowstorm in Bellingham, Washington. Just finishing recording his previous album, Nocturnal Signal and wanted to expand to other horizons using sounds from filed recordings and making his own sample-based instruments. The snowstorm inspired many field recording sessions which ended in the construction of a set of sample-based percussive instruments. Going on many hikes during the snow-covered forests around his home, capturing environmental sounds with fresh snow falling off terms, snowballs pounding on frozen steel doors, fallen tree limbs snapping in the ice-cod air, icicles breaking. A beautiful backdrop the album, all of the samples have a frozen crispness to every track.
The main instrument on the album is an old rusty music box. It has a rich harmonic resonant sound but it's also broken and vulnerable. Each track tells a story creating a musical storybook which is Under the Veneer, Jeads showcases his throughout the entire album. Under the Veneer is out now and is available to buy/stream.
“I dug deep into found sound field recording work on this album. The main instrument, a sampled old rusty music box I've had for years, provided a lot of the harmonic and emotive inspiration. All of the rhythmic and percussive sounds on the album come from a set of field recordings I took after a giant snowstorm in March of 2019.”
This track was made with healing people in mind and if it helps one person out there, then it's a success.” - Mikey Lion
